The falls was named after Queen Victoria by Dr David Livingstone, who was the first European to view the falls on 16 November 1855. This powerful cascade of water, which stretches a mile wide and flows thunderously into a 360 feet deep gorge, is known to the locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya meaning “The Smoke that Thunders”. A representative from Nanzhila Lake Camp will meet you on your return to the hotel and he / she will then transfer you to Dundumwezi Gate of the Kafue National Park being a mere 3 hour drive from Livingstone town. The camp’s guide / ranger will then meet you at the park gate. You can immediately start searching for four of the “Big 5” and all those other wonderful creatures on your 2 hour game drive through the park whilst driving to your lodge. Kafue National Park is teaming with wildlife and what makes this experience even more special for visitors is that you will have 3000 km² (1200 miles²) of wilderness to yourself. This tented lodge is situated on the shoreline where the Musa River joins Lake Itezhi-tezhi. The tented chalets are scattered along the tree line, allowing guests an unobstructed view of the floodplain with its constant flow of wildlife. The tents have comfortable beds draped in mosquito nets, a large en-suite bathroom, vanity area and an expansive covered verandah.
