Your guide will meet you upon your morning arrival in Johannesburg at O R Tambo International Airport. From here we depart for a short township tour of SOWETO for a glimpse of neighbourhood life and to reflect on the apartheid history of South Africa. This vibrant city is home to a host of interesting attractions, such as the Twin Towers and Freedom Square, as well as Vilakazi Street which is the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize recipients resided, namely Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the great Nelson Mandela. Included in this tour is a visit to the Nelson Mandela “Matchbox” House Museum and then the Apartheid Museum. You might like to get a bite to eat at the Truth Café found at the museum complex. Afternoon check-in at a charming lodge found on the East Rand. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening with fellow travellers and your local accredited guide who will also be the tour manager.

Day 3 & 4:

We’ll transfer you after breakfast to Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International for you to catch your flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where you will be met on your arrival. Transfer to your lodge found on the outskirts of the town of Victoria Falls. After check-in and some time at leisure, we join a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Beverages and snacks are included on this excursion. This experience will undoubtedly be one of your highlights on this tour, as there are not many better ways to reflect on how good life can be than to be floating along the mighty Zambezi River, watching the sun set over Africa, whilst sipping a refreshing drink. The next day after breakfast we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of the World”. The falls was named after Queen Victoria by Dr David Livingstone, who was the first European to view the falls on 16 November 1855. This powerful cascade of water, which stretches a mile wide and flows thunderously into a 360 feet deep gorge, is known to the locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya meaning “The Smoke that Thunders”. The rest of the day is yours to explore the town of Victoria Falls independently with its numerous open air art & craft markets, galleries and shops selling detailed wood carvings, artistic local stone sculptures, beaded jewellery and authentic pieces of African art, or you could consider joining one or more of our recommended optional excursions. Both evenings in Victoria Falls are at leisure and dinners can be enjoyed at your lodge’s restaurant or at a restaurant of your choice found in or near town.

Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. This huge wetland delta found in the centre of Botswana’s arid Kalahari is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the remotest places on earth. The delta with its virtually untouched natural beauty is fed by the Okavango River and is one of Africa’s greatest wilderness destinations. All our selected lodges are comfortable, eco friendly built, hold their own individual charm and are some of the few remaining safari camps that combine luxury with simplicity. The vast remoteness, the magnificent beauty, the unpolluted environment, the natural silence and the spectacular night sky where you find stars so bright that you feel you can reach out and touch them, makes for a truly revitalizing and soul searching experience. The delta swells to three times its permanent size when the floods peak in the dry winter months between June & August attracting an abundance of wildlife and hundreds of bird species. Explore this unique and beautiful stretch of Africa on motorized boats and/or on traditional “mokoro” canoe rides and/or on guided nature walks with your camp rangers. On each of these included excursions you have an excellent chance of spotting elephant, lion, Cape buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, African wild dog, hyena, hippo and crocodile, as well as a host of other animals and wonderful creatures.
