Day 1: 23 July, Fri

Morning arrival in South Africa. Your guide will meet you upon arrival at Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International Airport. If you arrive early, your tour guide will depart directly with you from the airport to Pretoria for a city tour that includes the Voortrekker Monument and Union Buildings. Your welcome dinner where you can get to meet your fellow travelers and LION supporters will be served as a traditional braai (barbeque) cooked by your guides – good luck. Overnight in Kempton Park – Johannesburg.

Day 2: 24 July, Sat

1st BIG MATCH DAY – As in 1997 & 2009, the “British & Irish LIONS” take on the mighty SPRINGBOKS and the World Champions. This will be a historical TEST as it is to be held for the first time at the FNB Stadium (capacity of 94 700) which is found within the SOWETO municipal area. After breakfast we first visit SOWETO for a township tour that reflects on the “apartheid” history of SA. On this tour we pass the BaraTaxi Rank, Baragwanath Hospital, Freedom Square (Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication), Old Twin Cooling Towers, Regina Mundi Catholic Church and the Hector Pieterson Museum. We then take a walk down Vilakazi Street (only street in the world to have had two Nobel Prize winners as its residents) for an included visit to Nelson Mandela’s “Matchbox” House

Museum. We then head for the FNB Stadium, which is also known to the locals as “Soccer City” or the “Calabash”, arriving in time to enjoy the build up to the first TEST which should be another great game of rugby. Lunch on route. After the game and before we return you to your lodge / hotel we will drive to Sandton where you can have dinner at any one of the great restaurants found on / near “Mandela Square”.

Day 3: 25 July, Sun

After breakfast and a leisurely morning we visit the Sterkfontein Caves, a UNESCO world heritage site, also known as the “Cradle of Humankind”. These caves are credited with famous discoveries such as “Mrs Ples” and recently “Little Foot” an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton. This visit is followed by the Maropeng Museum for a boat ride through time. We then visit Lesedi Cultural Village with 5 traditional homesteads including Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho and Ndebele. Visitors are invited to observe the Africa way of life on a short tour of the village and then ending with the ”Giant Ingoma” – song & dance from all five villages, before your Pan Africa Feast (dinner is included). Overnight in Kempton Park – Johannesburg.

Day 4: 26 July, Mon

After breakfast and a leisurely morning we travel via Middelburg, Dullstroom, Lydenburg and Sabie (Long Tom Pass) to the town of Hazyview situated in the province of Mpumalanga.  You have the rest of the afternoon and the evening at leisure. Dinner will be served at the hotel / lodge’s restaurant. Overnight in Hazyview.

Day 5: 27 July, Tues

Depart early morning for the world-renowned Kruger National Park (KNP) and your included full day open vehicle safari in search of the “Big 5” and a host of other animals. The KNP is known to be the most diverse park in the world with 140 mammals, 119 reptiles, ± 506 bird, 55 amphibians and ± 1980 plant species. Evening at leisure. Lunch included in the park and dinner can be enjoyed at the lodge / hotel or at one of the numerous good restaurants found in town (transport will be available). Overnight in Hazyview.

Day 6: 28 July, Wed

Today we visit the old gold rush town of Pilgrim’s Rest, a museum in its entirety. Lunch (not included) can be enjoyed at the famous Harries Pancakes restaurant found in the town of Graskop. We then continue along the “Panorama Route” of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, admire the natural beauty of the Blyde River Canyon – the third deepest canyon in the world, Bourke`s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, Pinnacle Rock and one of the beautiful waterfalls found in the area.  Afternoon & evening at leisure. Dinner will be served at the lodge / hotel restaurant. Overnight in Hazyview.

Day 7: 29 July, Thurs

A free morning to relax or explore the area in and around the town of Hazyview. Your tour manager / guide will be able to advise you on a couple of the activities that are available:

  • Early morning open vehicle safari to Kruger
  • Elephant interaction and / or ride
  • Microlight flight
  • Canopy zipline

This afternoon we head back to Kruger for an included afternoon / sunset open vehicle safari and a traditional dinner in the bush. Overnight in Hazyview.

Day 8 or (Day 1): 30 July, Fri

We depart after breakfast either to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) near the town of White River or drivebackto Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International Airport (depending on the availability of flights) in order for you to catch your direct flight to Cape Town (included) or fly home or join the Victoria Falls or Victoria Falls & Chobe add-on tour or a private safari. Your Cape Town welcome dinner will be served at one of the excellent restaurants found in town. Here you will have a chance to meet the new arrivals and fellow LION supporters. Overnight in Cape Town near the V & A Waterfront.

Start your tour by arriving in Cape Town. Your guide will meet you upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport. He / she will transfer you to your hotel near the V & A Waterfront. Lunch can be enjoyed at any one of the numerous excellent restaurants found in town or on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, which are either within a short safe walking distance from your hotel or you can catch the hotels complimentary shuttle bus. Your welcome dinner will be served at one of the excellent restaurants found in town. Here you will have a chance to meet your fellow travelers and LION supporters. Day 9 or (Day 2): 31 July, Sat

2nd BIG MATCH DAY – If you include this “British & Irish LIONS” tour of South Africa, then the last 3 series in South Africa over a period of 130 years would be against the reigning World Champions.

After breakfast and a leisurely morning, your guide will take you on a short orientation tour of South Africa’s beautiful mother city. This tour includes the Castle of Good Hope, Parade Ground, City Hall, Houses of Parliament, Tuinhuis and the DEIC (Dutch East Indian Company) Gardens.

Optional and weather permitting – we take the cableway up Table Mountain. Lunch can be had at the V & A Waterfront before we head for the Cape Town Stadium which will be the new official home of Western Province Rugby Union as of 2021. Sadly the famous Newlands rugby stadium is to be demolished. The Cape Town Stadium is also known to the locals as the “Stadium of Light”. We arrive in time for you to enjoy the build up to the second TEST, which should be another great game of rugby. Meals in Cape Town can be enjoyed at various excellent restaurants found in town or on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, which are either within a short safe walking distance from your hotel or you can catch the hotels complimentary shuttle bus. Day 10 or (Day 3): 01 Aug, Sun

A day at leisure, where you can do the following optional activities – visit a local township or visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 17 years or Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or visit one of the numerous beautiful beaches found around the Cape’s coastline or for the energetic – take a hike up Table Mountain or for the brave – shark cage diving. Evening at leisure or fly home or join the Victoria Falls or Victoria Falls & Chobe add-on tour or a private safari. Overnight in Cape Town near the V & A Waterfront.

Today we take a scenic drive around the “Cape Peninsula”. Visit Hout Bay and the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island, Chapman’s Peak Pass, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point and the Boulders – Penguins. Have lunch (not included) in Simonstown at any one of the numerous restaurants found in town. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town near the V & A Waterfront.

Day 12 or (Day 5): 03 Aug, Tues

Today we take a drive to Cape Agulhas, the “Most southern tip of the African continent” and after our visit (short hike) we make our way back towards Cape Town along the Cape’s beautiful south eastern coastline and the small seaside town of Hermanus, which is known in season for its excellent whale watching and the “best land based whale watching in the world”. Lunch (not included) can also be enjoyed in town, before we return to Cape Town. Overnight in Cape Town near the V & A Waterfront.

Day 13 or (Day 6): 04 Aug, Weds

A day out in the “winelands”. Wine tastings and a cellar tour at various wine estates along the Cape’s world-renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route, also spend some time in the picturesque and historical towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town near the V & A Waterfront.

Day 14 or (Day 7): 05 Aug, Thurs

Morning at leisure. There will be time for last minute shopping and lunch at the V & A Waterfront, weather permitting an optional helicopter flight over the “Cape Peninsula”, before we transfer you to Cape Town International Airport in order for you to catch your afternoon flight back to Johannesburg (included). Evening at leisure or fly home or join the Victoria Falls or Victoria Falls & Chobe add-on tour or a private safari. This morning after breakfast we visit the famous Cullinan / Premier Diamond Mine that produced the world’s largest diamond – 3106 ct Cullinan Diamond. Enjoy some lunch (not included) at one of the numerous restaurants found in the village of Cullinan, before we drive to the famous Ellis Park, now “Emirates Airline Park” rugby stadium & museum for a tour of this historical ground where the mighty SPRINGBOKS beat the ALL BLACKS in the final to win the 1995 World Cup. This is where the final TEST will be played tomorrow afternoon. Evening at leisure or you can make use of our courtesy shuttle bus and go out for dinner at any one of the numerous good restaurants found near the lodge / hotel. Overnight in Kempton Park – Johannesburg.

Day 16 or (Day 9): 07 Aug, Sat

3rd BIG MATCH DAY – The final TEST at Emirates Airline Park (Ellis Park) Stadium and hopefully the decider of the “British & Irish LIONS” 2021 tour of South Africa.

After breakfast and a leisurely morning we head for Emirates Airline Park. Lunch on route or at an eating place at the stadium (not included). We arrive in time for you to enjoy the build up to the third TEST. After the game and before we return you to your lodge / hotel we will drive to Sandton where you can enjoy dinner at anyone of the great restaurants found on / near “Mandela Square”. Overnight in Kempton Park – Johannesburg.

Day 17 or (Day 10): 08 Aug, Sun

A morning at leisure before we all go out on a very interesting half day city tour of Johannesburg, this tour before we transfer those of you going home to the airport. On tour – “we drive through the old & new downtown Johannesburg passing on route various historical building, the Carlton Centre and Ghandi Square. We then visit the Old Johannesburg Fort that was used as a prison until 1986, it is the only prison in the world to have 2 Nobel Peace prize winners (Luthuli & Mandela) incarcerated, as well as the famous Ghandi. The establishment is now known as Constitution Hill, home of our Constitutional Court”. After this tour you can fly home or join the Victoria Falls or Victoria Falls & Chobe add-on tour or a private safari.

Second Day – We will transfer you to Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International Airport in order for you to catch your 90 minute flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Our representative will be at the airport to meet you on arrival in Zimbabwe. He / she will transfer you to your hotel. After you check-in at your lodge / hotel, we will transfer you to the jetty on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River for your included sunset river cruise (snacks & drinks included).

Third Day – This morning, your guide will meet you at the lodge / hotel to take you on your guided walking tour of the spectacular Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is known to be one of the “7 natural wonders of the world”.

The Victoria Falls guided walking tour will be finished by about 10h30 and you therefore have the rest of the day free to relax or explore as you wish. Our local representative will be able to advise you

on the many activities available in and around the area of the village of Victoria Falls. Activities such as:

  • Walking with the lions (highly recommended)
  • Helicopter flights over the falls – Known as “The Flight of Angels” (highly recommended)
  • Elephant back safaris
  • Livingstone Island (Devils Pool) – Zambia
  • Tiger fishing

Forth Day – This morning, our representative will meet you at the lodge / hotel at about 10h30 in order to transfer you to Kasane (Botswana) where you will have the next 2 days to explore the Chobe National Park – “Big 4 Country”. This area is well known for its large herds of elephant and Cape buffalo. This afternoon, after lunch you have an included Chobe River sunset cruise. Evening at leisure. Dinner will be served at the lodge restaurant.

Fifth Day – Up “bright and early”. Coffee / tea / biscuit will be served at reception before you go out on your exciting open vehicle safari into the Chobe National Park. Return for breakfast where you then have the day to relax at this stunning lodge situated on the banks of the Chobe River or relax around its beautiful swimming pool or make use of the lodge’s wonderful SPA. Once again lunch is included and then you have another open vehicle safari (afternoon / sunset) included. Evening at leisure. Dinner will be served at the lodge restaurant.

Sixth Day – After breakfast and a leisurely morning, we will transfer you to Victoria Falls Airport in order for you to catch your connecting flight back to Johannesburg for your evening flight back home.
