Duration:  18 Days / 17 Nights

  • Accommodation is subject to availability, if the under mentioned accommodation is not available we shall endeavour to supply comparable facilities.
  • The standard of the accommodation is on average a lot better than our grading, due to the fact that we selected the best accommodation available for each category at each location.

Car Hire:

  • Various car hire groups as per your budget.
  • Hire from Johannesburg / Return to Johannesburg.
  • Includes – contract fee / unlimited km / maximum insurance cover and cross border permit.

Day 1:

Morning arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our representative will be at the airport to meet you and hand over your travel documents (vouchers). Collect your vehicle at the rental agency, before departing to Pretoria for a city tour that includes the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House, Church Square and Union Buildings. Overnight at our charming little lodge near the airport.

Day 2:

Travel via Middelburg, Dullstroom, Lydenburg, “Robbers Pass” and Pilgrim’s Rest to Hazyview situated in the province of Mpumalanga, meaning “the land of the rising sun”. Spend a couple of hours in the old gold rush town of Pilgrim’s Rest, a museum in its entirety. Overnight in the beautiful Sabie River Valley.

Day 3:

Travel the “Panorama Route” of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, admire the natural beauty of the Blyde River Canyon, which is the third deepest canyon in the world, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window, lunch on route. Depending on availability – you can enjoy some African culture with singing, dancing and dinner at Shangana, a traditional Shangaan village, meet the chief with his 3 wives and 36 children. Overnight in the beautiful Sabie River Valley.

Day 4 & 5:

Visit Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Kapama Cheetah Breeding & Research Centre), before travelling to the world-renowned Kruger National Park (KNP), enter the park at Orpen Gate. Enjoy the rest of the day in the KNP. The next day you travel north through the KNP in search of the “Big 5” and a host of other animals. The KNP is known to be the most diverse park in the world with 140 mammals, 119 reptiles, ± 506 bird, 55 amphibians and ± 1980 plant species. Overnight in the KNP.

  • Open vehicle sunset safari with a local game ranger.

Day 6:

Still in the far northern reaches of the KNP, visit Crook’s Corner on the border between SA, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in the KNP.

Optional activities:

  • Morning – guided tour on foot with the parks rangers to the Thulamela Ruins, former seat of wicked King Ingwe and beautiful Queen Losha.
  • Open vehicle night safari with the parks game ranger.

Day 7:

Depart from the KNP via Punda Maria Gate. Travel to Tzaneen, visit Modjadji Cycad Forest Reserve and Sapeco Tea Estate, lunch on the estate at the Pekoe View restaurant. Overnight in or near Tzaneen.

Day 8 & 9:

Make your way to Botswana via the small towns of Vivo, Alldays and the Pontdrif border post. Enjoy some time to relax and unwind on a private ranch in the African bush. Spend the next two nights in the Tuli block situated at the confluence of the Shasha and Limpopo rivers.

Day 10:

This is a long day of travelling, so you would need to depart early morning, have breakfast and lunch en route. Travel to Nata via the Zanzibar border post, Selebi Phikwe and Francistown. Overnight at Nata – Botswana.

Day 11:

This afternoon you will have time to take a recommended optional open vehicle safari to the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, the unique Sowa (Sua) Pan is one of the largest salt pans in the world stretching 252 km² and it is known for its prolific birdlife. Morning and evening at leisure. Overnight in Nata – Botswana.

Day 12:

After breakfast and a leisurely morning you travel to Kasane, arrive in time for lunch at your   lodge situated on the banks of the Chobe River. The “only place in the world where 4 countries meet” is at the confluence of the Chobe & Zambezi Rivers, which is very close to your lodge. You have the rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure. Overnight at Kasane – Botswana.

Day 13 & 14:

Two days to explore, with early morning open vehicle safaris into “Big 4” country – Chobe National Park, and then you have the rest of the days to relax at the lodge with its beautiful setting along the Chobe River. You can end off your days with a sunset cruise down the river. This area is well known for its large herds of elephant and Cape buffalo. Overnight at Kasane – Botswana.

  • Morning – Open vehicle safari – Chobe National Park.
  • Afternoon – Sunset cruise down the Chobe River.
  • Afternoon – Open vehicle safari – Chobe National Park.
  • Tiger fishing on the Chobe River
  • Scenic flights over the Okavango Delta

Day 15:

Included – Full day tour – Cross the border at Kazungula to Zimbabwe for a visit to one of the natural wonders of the world – Victoria Falls. Although Dr David Livingstone first viewed the Victoria Falls on the 16 November 1855 from Livingstone Island in Zambia, the best view of the Victoria Falls is with out a doubt from the Zimbabwe side. Enjoy lunch at the impressive colonial style Victoria Falls Hotel – “grand old lady”, before returning to Botswana at the Kazungula border post. Overnight at Kasane – Botswana.

Day 16:

This day involves quite a bit of travelling. Depart after breakfast back towards South Africa via Nata & Francistown. Depending on availability of accommodation – overnight near Serowe (Khama Rhino Sanctuary) or in Selebi Phikwe.

Day 17:

After breakfast you cross the border back into South Africa at the Martin’s Drift / Groblersbrug border post. Travel to Sun City via Lephalale and Thabazimbi the “mountain of iron”. Early afternoon arrival at Sun City – “the place where the sun never sets”. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 18:

Enjoy a relaxing morning, before driving back to Johannesburg, the commercial hub of South Africa, drop-off your hired vehicle at O R Tambo International Airport. There will be time for some last minute shopping, before your departure. Catch your flight home.
