13 Day – Kalahari and Kgalagadi Tour


Duration: 13 Days / 12 Nights

  • Accommodation is subject to availability, if the under mentioned accommodation is not available we shall endeavour to supply comparable facilities.
  • The standard of the accommodation is on average a lot better than our grading, due to the fact that we have selected the best accommodation available for each category at each location.

Car Hire:

  • Various car hire groups as per your budget.
  • Hire from Johannesburg / Return to Johannesburg.
  • Includes – contract fee / unlimited km / maximum insurance cover.

Day 1:

Morning arrival in South Africa. Our representative will be at the airport to meet you and hand over your travel documents (Vouchers). Collect your hired vehicle at the rentals office at O R Tambo International Airport. Depart for the eastern Free State and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Stop in the village of Clarens, for lunch and a wonder around this picturesque little town. Then it is off to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel or take a hike up to the top of the awesome “Brandwag” Mountain.

Day 2:

Travel via Phuthaditjhaba to the “Barrier of Spears” – KwaZulu Natal Drakensburg Mountains for a hike of about 6 hours, at a height of 2850 meters, along the rim of the majestic “Mont-Aux-Sources”, the source of the second highest waterfall in the world – Tugela Falls. Overnight near Clarens.

Day 3 & 4:

Travel through the eastern Free State to Kimberley via little towns of Fouriesburg, Ficksburg, Ladybrand and then the capital of the Free State – Bloemfontein. Kimberley is the capital of the Northern Cape Province and became famous for the discovery of diamonds in 1871. Here you can visit some of the historical sites in and around town, including the “Big Hole” and an interesting underground tour of an old diamond mine. Overnight in Kimberley.

Day 5 & 6:

Drive through the so called “Green Kalahari”, via the towns of Upington, Kiemoes and Kakamus to the impressive Augrabies Falls National Park. Stop at one of the wineries on route. You have the next day to view the falls, enjoy a morning game drive through the park and then an afternoon walk along the 5 km long “Klipspringer” hiking trail. All meals are served at the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight in the Augrabies Falls National Park

  • Early morning walk / hike with park ranger.

Day 7, 8, 9 & 10:

Drive back to Upington to pick-up food and other supplies for your journey to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (between South Africa and Botswana). Spend the next couple of days traveling through this park from one camp to another. This park is in the “heart of the Kalahari” and is one of the most pristine conservation areas on earth with its majestic camelthorn trees bulging with sociable weaver nest, the unique gemsbok, the hugely impressive black mane Kalahari lion and the ever busy little suricate – “meerkat”. Overnight at various camps in the park.

  • Nossob Camp – Afternoon or sunset game drive with the parks ranger.

Day 11:

After breakfast and a leisurely morning in the park, you return to Upington. Check-in at your hotel and then you have the afternoon and evening at leisure in Upington, an oasis in the Kalahari. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of the numerous restaurants in town.

Day 12:

A long day’s travel, back to Johannesburg. Overnight at a lodge in Johannesburg / Pretoria or Muldersdrift on the outskirts of Johannesburg & Pretoria, where you can enjoy your farewell dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant, which is one of only two of its kind in the world.

Day 13

The morning at leisure or you could visit the Sterkfontein Caves, also known as “The Cradle of Humankind”. Drop-off the hired car at the rentals office at O R Tambo International Airport. There will be time for some last minute shopping, before your departure.

  • Township tour of Soweto, with an accredited guide.
