Day 1:

Depart for the eastern Free State and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Stop in the village of Clarens, for lunch and a wonder around this picturesque little town. Then it is off to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel or take a hike up to the top of the awesome “Brandwag” Mountain. Dinner will be served at the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight near Clarens.

Day 2:

Travel via Phuthaditjhaba to the “Barrier of Spears” – KwaZulu Natal Drakensburg Mountains for a hike of about 6 hours, at a height of 2850 metres, along the rim of the majestic “Mont-Aux-Sources”, the source of the second highest waterfall in the world – Tugela Falls. Overnight near Clarens.

Day 3 & 4:

Travel through the Eastern Free State to Kimberley via little towns of Fouriesburg, Ficksburg, Ladybrand and then the capital of the Free State – Bloemfontein. Kimberley is the capital of the Northern Cape Province and became famous for the discovery of diamonds in 1871. Here we visit some of the historical sites in and around town, including the “Big Hole” and an interesting underground tour of an old diamond mine. Overnight in Kimberley.

Day 5 & 6:

Drive through the so called “Green Kalahari”, via the towns of Upington, Kiemoes and Kakamus to the impressive Augrabies Falls National Park. Stop at one of the wineries on route. You have the next day to view the falls, enjoy a morning game drive through the park and then an afternoon walk along the 7 km long “Klipspringer” hiking trail. All meals are served at the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight in the Augrabies Falls National Park

Day 7, 8 ,9 & 10:

Drive back to Upington to pick-up food and other supplies for our journey to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (between South Africa and Botswana). Spend the next couple of days travelling through this park from one camp to another. This park is in the “heart of the Kalahari” and is one of the most pristine conservation areas on earth with its majestic camelthorn trees bulging with sociable weaver nest, the unique gemsbok, the hugely impressive black mane Kalahari lion and the ever busy little suricate – “meerkat”. All meals will be cooked by your guide – good luck.

  • Nossob Camp – Afternoon or sunset game safari with the parks ranger.

Day 11:

After breakfast and a leisurely morning in the park, we return to Upington. Check-in at our hotel, you then have the afternoon and evening at leisure in Upington, an oasis in the Kalahari. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of the numerous restaurants in town.

Day 12:

A long day’s travel, back towards Johannesburg. Overnight at Muldersdrift on the outskirts of Johannesburg & Pretoria. Our farewell dinner will be served at the Carnivore Restaurant, which is one of only two of its kind in the world.

Day 13:

The morning at leisure or we could visit the Sterkfontein Caves, also known as “The Cradle of Humankind” or visit Soweto – reflex on the “Apartheid” era of South Africa’s history. There will be time for last minute shopping before your departure. Transfer to O R Tambo International in time for you to catch your flight home.

Recommended – Cape Town Add-on Tour:

Travel to Johannesburg, catch your flight to Cape Town. Your guide will meet you on arrival in Cape Town to transfer you to your hotel. Dinner can be enjoyed at one of the numerous restaurants on the V & A Waterfront. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 14:

Take a scenic drive around the “Cape Peninsula”. Visit Hout Bay and the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point and Boulders – Penguins. Optional and weather permitting – we take the cableway up Table Mountain. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 15:

A day at leisure, where you can do the following optional activities – a city orientation tour of South Africa’s beautiful Mother City on the “hop-on hop-off bus” or visit a local township or visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 17 years or visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or visit one of the numerous beautiful beaches around the Cape or for the energetic – take a hike up Table Mountain or for the brave – shark cage diving. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 16:

Wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the wine estates along the Cape’s world-renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route, also spend some time in the picturesque towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Enjoy dinner at one of the excellent restaurants found in town. Overnight in Cape Town.

Day 17:

Morning at leisure. Lunch at the V & A Waterfront, time for last minute shopping and weather permitting an optional helicopter flight over the “Cape Peninsula”. Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your flight home.
